|sbobet24 Barcelona's tiki-taka under Pep Guardiola signified how football should be played. From 2008-12, Los Cules set the standard which other teams were judged. Many of their players became legends. The Premier League's ardent enthusiasts could only watch in amazement as Barca took out Manchester United in two Champions League finals.
Jack Wilshere never reached the heights his potential suggested
So, when Arsenal defeated Barcelona in 2011, the Gunners were deservedly praised. Jack Wilshere played a starring role that night. His majestic performance earned many plaudits. The then 19-year-old bossed Barca's renowned midfield trio of Sergio Busquets, Xavi and Andres Iniesta. Seven years on, however, Wilshere has failed to become the phenomenon once expected. What's happened to the Englishman?
Plagued by injuries
Since breaking into Arsenal’s first-team nine seasons ago, Wilshere has suffered 13 separate injuries. The most devastating, a hairline crack in his calfbone, kept him out for 247 days. Overall, he's missed 155 games. That's an average of 17.2 per campaign.
Injuries have affected Wilshere's development, and therefore his form. A lack of regular game time at crucial stages meant he could never kick on. At 26, his career should now be at its peak. With each passing week, though, the midfielder's match fitness is a major concern. Wilshere's reputation has been stained, no doubt, by persistent injury problems. sbobet24
Overconfidence in his own ability
As a young, prodigious talent, it seems Wilshere was conceited. He didn't work hard enough on his game. The true superstars, such as Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, continually strive for perfection. The Arsenal midfielder, however, was often spotted in nightclubs, partying and engaging in frivolities.
The English press hasn't helped matters, either. Although Wilshere's technique wouldn't look out of place in Spain's national team, comparing him to Xavi was never justified. Wilshere is starting to mature, yet he still comes across as feeling entitled. Without performance backing him up, though, he has little to brag about.
Last week, Gareth Southgate omitted Wilshere from England's World Cup squad. The Three Lions' central midfield includes Jordan Henderson and Ruben Loftus-Cheek. Fabian Delph, whose stability, passing and dribbling helped Manchester City secure the title, could also feature in that role. Wilshere's non-inclusion is yet another reminder of his decline. sbobet24
